Harrogate · North Yorkshire

Timeless
quiet luxury.

An art-deco house of sixty-two rooms, four acres of garden and a thermal spa fed by the town's own mineral spring. Two hours from King's Cross, a world away from it.

Rooms from £245 per night, breakfast included

The house

Built in 1904 for people who came to Harrogate to be well.

Harrogate grew up around its sulphur wells, and The Meridian grew up with them. The house was rebuilt in 1904 in the art-deco manner — symmetrical, unhurried, built around a courtyard that still catches the afternoon sun.

Four generations of the same family have kept it since 1948. We have modernised carefully: the spring still feeds the spa at a constant 36°C, the stairwell still has its original bronze balustrade, and the kitchen still bakes its own bread twice a day. Nothing here is louder than it needs to be.

The thermal spa

Thirty-six degrees, every day of the year.

Our water comes up from the same magnesium-rich aquifer that made Harrogate a spa town. It is drawn at source, filtered, and held at a constant 36°C — warm enough to stay in for an hour, which most guests do.

The spa sits in the old orangery: a vaulted glass roof, six treatment rooms, a hammam, an ice fountain and a rasul chamber. Day passes are open to guests and residents of the town alike.

  • Thermal journey (2 hours, pool, hammam, steam)£55
  • Meridian Signature Ritual (90 minutes)£145
  • Deep tissue massage (60 minutes)£95
  • Bespoke facial with mineral clay (55 minutes)£88
  • Rasul mud ceremony for two (60 minutes)£130

Spa open daily 07:00 – 20:00. Treatments from 09:00. Please book 48 hours ahead.

The Palm Court

Dinner under glass, at seven.

Our restaurant occupies the 1904 palm court — a conservatory of arched glazing looking out over the walled garden. The kitchen is Yorkshire to its bones: Swaledale lamb, Whitby crab, rhubarb from the kitchen garden, and a wine list that leans Burgundy and the Rhine.
